The constellation Lupus is a nondescript animal pierced by the spear of Centaurus. "The Wolf" was not its original name. Its alternate, Victima, gives a better idea of what it represents.
The detailed prophecy of the suffering Messiah found in Isaiah 53 says that "he had no form or comeliness" to make him noticeable. This is the aspect of Messiah that Lupus represents. Nothing remarkable in his appearance, yet part of a great plan.
The plan was that he be "pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities." The spear held by Centaurus is not the spear of the soldier that pierced Messiah's side. Rather, it is the instrument of God's wrath against sin—our sin, which Messiah bore for us. Isaiah's prophecy says that God will look at Messiah's sufferings and be satisfied. By satisfying God's wrath against sin, those sufferings brought our peace with God.
