Last time I ordered from Amazon, my products came from many different locations. That got me thinking . . .
And I thought, when a person buys one of my books from CreateSpace, I get a nice profit; when a person buys that book through Amazon, I get a teensy profit. (I publish most of my books through CreateSpace.) So, I reasoned, the same is true with other companies. If I buy my art supplies through Amazon rather than the business that produces and sells them, that business is getting only a teensy profit.
This isn't right. Businesses will not be able to survive on so little profit. Amazon keeps growing and, I'm afraid, gobbling up businesses. What will happen to creativity and enterprise?
I've decided to buy directly from businesses whenever possible. It may cost a little more, shipping may take longer, but I will consider it an investment in other people's livelihoods. Maybe you will join me.
