I love this painting. Sometimes I thought I'd never finish it because it was hard to do, but it makes me smile inside every time I look at it. My first granddaughter was the little artist. She is now a high school junior, still doing art.
Painting my grandchildren was my original reason for getting into art. One secret of successful art is to do it of something you love—and what is more loveable than grandchildren?
What was hardest for me in this watercolor was the light and shadow on the table. I never had lessons, but I admire Steve Hanks's work and I think loving his style and loving my subject made it possible.
